Paola Severino

Vice President, Luiss University, Italy

Paola Severino is the Vice President of Luiss University of Rome since June 2018.

She is also President of the Scientific Council of the Luiss School of Law and Director of two key Masters, as well as member of the Strategic Group of Luiss School of European Political Economy.

As a criminal lawyer, she has worked as consultant, speaker on Criminal Law, and member of several ministerial committees on the reform of criminal law and criminal procedural law. She is also President of AIDP (Association Internationale de Droit Penal), member of the Comitato di Riflessione e Indirizzo Strategico promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affaris and International Cooperation, and member of the Consiglio dell’Ordine “Al merito della Repubblica Italiana”.

Notably, from 2011 to 2013 she was Minister of Justice of the Italian Government, and she has been appointed by Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni as a member of the working group in charge of drafting the so called “Quirinale Treaty”, which will represent a reference framework for the development of the future bilateral relations between Italy and France.

Regarding her academic professional career, she has hold the positions of Dean of the Department of Law of the Luiss University, Vice President of the Council of the Military Judiciary, and tenured professor and Chair of Criminal Law at the law Department of Luiss University. In addition, she has been Rector of this university from 2015 to 2018.
