Holder of a doctorate from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris, Valérie Amiraux has been a professor of sociology at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the University of Montreal since 2007. She held the Research Chair of the Canada in study of religious pluralism for 10 years. She devoted her first work to the transnational mobilizations of actors of political Islam between Germany and Turkey and to a reflection on the practices of investigation in the social sciences. Since 2007, she has been interested in the place of religious subjects in the public space, in particular from the study of the relations between religious minorities and States in secularized societies. At the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Valérie Amiraux served as Vice-Dean for International Partnerships from 2017 to 2020 and as Faculty Secretary from 2018 to 2020. She has directed the journal Sociologie et Sociétés since September 2016 and was elected , in 2017, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
As Vice-Rectorate for Community and International Partnership, Amiraux is responsible for the strategic development of international relations in teaching and research, as well as support for student mobility and faculty mobility. She is also responsible for the development of community partnership projects that are available locally and abroad.
