Born in Hebei Province in October 1958, Dr. Wang Shuguo was admitted to the Harbin Institute of Technology in 1977, majoring in mechanical engineering, where he obtainedhis B.E., M.E., and D.E. respectively. In 1993, he was promoted to be professor for his outstanding academic achievements. He was appointed to be Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology in 1998, and was appointed to be director of the Heilongjiang Provincial Science and Technology Bureau in January 1999. He served as the President of Harbin Institute of Technology from March 2002 to April 2014, and was elected deputy of the 10th, the 11th and the 12th National People’s Congress.
Dr.Wang is expert in robot research and has achieved significant results in intelligent robot simulation, mobile robot, space robot, etc. In the beginningof the 21st century, he has lead his team in pioneering a new field of Chinese biomedical engineering, and has successfully developed the world’s first bionic hand for trauma recovery, the first electronic map of human brain anatomy in China and the first robot system in China of minimally invasive interventional operation in the abdominal cavity.
